Helena came to me yesterday as I was painting the house and said she would like to cook dinner “all by” herself, choose the recipe EVERYTHING. It was so easy for me to butt out as I was focused on my painting. She chose the recipe, worked out if we had the ingredients, found them,…

another random day..
I have once again recorded what Helena and her friend got up to during the school day and thought about my role.. I do this time sample to see what the kids are up to as sometimes they seem like moths drawn to new lights or bees flitting around here and there never landing on…
too cute
This afternoon the lovely children spent ages doing a word hunt for me… there was a map so they could tick them off as I found them…. I got a prize- home made lemonade. Now they have delivered a cup of lemonade to the neighbor, their lemon, and saved one for Helena’s friend’s mum.
leaving her to it
Recently I have been leaving Helena to her own devices, more than usual, as I am painting the house (she has been offered $ to help) and working on the sleep out (I thought she would be interested but no..). I am modeling er something I hope. Helena has found her own project and it…
stuff I don’t get..
This is Helena following one of her passions -Nursery rhymes! I don’t get it. Why couldn’t she choose song lyrics? We’re back in homeschool land…
Back to catered meetings…. Back with new ideas… Helena has come up a new scheme using points, she does stuff – especially “school work” like stuff and gets points that add up to “goals” where we do stuff together or I support her to do stuff with her friends. I have said it’s your scheme…
An iPad away from..
One of the things that Helena liked about school is the iPads. She has used an iPad more in the last week than in the rest of her life. She has been using a programme called reading eggpress (sic) which has these little bits of text, maybe they are short stories (the one I read…
Is lego just lego?
The kids are playing lego, or is it playing with lego? So far they have discussed: the increase of motivation you get when you are “paid”.. (they are paying each other in desirable pieces to find other pieces), equality, fairness, vegetarianism, the qualities of various pieces (using words to describe a piece in a mutually…
Going to a dyslexia course..
I thought this would be brilliant as I know people, big and small, who are dyslexic. I want to know more, to understand. I want to know; how we know, how to work out if someone thinks differently, what skills they have that I can help foster because I can only see thinking differently as…
