too cute

This afternoon the lovely children spent ages doing a word hunt for me… there was a map so they could tick them off as I found them…. I got a prize- home made lemonade. Now they have delivered a cup of lemonade to the neighbor, their lemon, and saved one for Helena’s friend’s mum.

stuff I don’t get..

This is Helena following one of her passions -Nursery rhymes! I don’t get it. Why couldn’t she choose song lyrics? Or poetry…. or like a friend learn the entirety of Spike Milligan reading Bad Jelly the Witch by listening to it on a kids radio show- seriously impressive. This nursery rhyme passion has been going…

Wasting time

Concentration, single mindedness, dedication and creativity… this was some of the qualities my darling showed today. There was a hiccup in the middle when I had a small tantrum about finding the lounge floor once again completely covered in stuff but after mutrual rants she came up with a clever compromise to work in her…

Lockdown again

but yet scarily like our every day life.. There are the weird nature related tasks – making wands with flowers from the garden… The slightly less weird but unpredictable – this time mating snails… The eating in odd locations… Followed by some schoolish activities, not assigned by me but some of those activity styley maths…

We’re back in homeschool land…

Back to catered meetings…. Back with new ideas… Helena has come up a new scheme using points, she does stuff – especially “school work” like stuff and gets points that add up to “goals” where we do stuff together or I support her to do stuff with her friends. I have said it’s your scheme…

Introverts inc

I thanked Helena’s teacher for making her school experience positive, as judged by Helena wanting to go when she was sick and me not having to drag her in. I also said something to Helena’s teacher about how school can be hard for introverts to which she replied that this was just due to “some…

Today’s random self assigned unassessed learning

We made some 3D flexagons because I assigned her this task because I thought she’d like it. Oh, did she complain! Mainly because a bit of it is quite difficult, and it was my idea so therefore my fault. Of course she did actually like it so then she made lots and eventually didn’t even…

those feathers again..

What does it all mean? These feathers have lasted as characters for well over a year. Their names have remained the same, except Green is now Green Gage due to trying a hyped up plum. First the feathers lived in a box by her bed and now they live in a converted ex milkshake cup!…

Everything is a character.

And I mean everything…. from the truly weird These paint samples came with names but they are all different ages and have a lot of inner dialogue. Helena’s translation goes like this: Me: “What are you doing now?” Helena: “Sorting into pairs. Yippee and Narrow Sea are ooo ee (noises) ah there’s another pair. So…

a Project.

I can’t always tell which of Helena’s project ideas are just her spewing ideas or something that she really wants to come to fruition so when she tells me a new idea I am guilty of: not fully listening, being agreeable but not helpful, being wrong when I run with a project that was just…
