learning from your kids

I am starting, at 52, to enjoy Shakespeare after nearly 40 years of total aversion. Why? Because my child loves the language and the drama of it all. Weirdo. She is at the moment at the end of the table reciting from a book of Shakespeare’s poems and excerpts from plays… getting more and more dramatic. “Double, double, toil and trouble..” She is learning them like she learnt nursery rhymes. Her and my father watched some old movie of Taming of the shrew with Elizabeth Taylor in it, and loved it!! Yet she didn’t like Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio in it as guns were too big a departure from the original for her… weirdo.

It’s the same with classical music! Who’d have thought I would ever choose to listen to Classical music but after H insisting for ages that that was all we could listen to I now will independently choose to.. Weird.

We have local elections coming up and I intend on voting for a young adult, in his early 20s, for Mayor. I have seen his dedication to his job as a councillor, I know we are roughly on the same side of the political fence and I think his age is a total plus. A modern person for our current situation. Einstein said “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”.

Weirdly though my darling is teaching to enjoy old stuff… ah the youth of today.
